Is it safe to pay over the phone with your debit card? I've heard of agencies ripping people off. None of the collection agencies that have my debt ever call me or mail me, even though they have my current phone number and address. They are Valley Empire Collections, Unique National Collections, ER Solutions, and General Credit Services.

Hey Krystalblue87

You can make a payment over phone but make sure you collect the payment verification number if in case there arises any question about the payment. Details of telephonic payments are usually updated within a few hours of completion. This can be a quick way to make credit card payments and not get late.

If it were me I would prefer to pay by money order and save that reciept forever. You can pay over the phone but giving out account information is not always a good thing. By giving them this information you are giving them access to your bank info. Many people have come here asking what to do after a collection agency overtook money from their account. You can dispute it with the bank if they were to do this but it may be a little while before getting your money back and what if things bounce in the time it takes to get the money.
You could also pay by another credit card, those are usually always protected and if an issue arose from that it could be disputed with your card company. I would chose the money order route and be sure to keep the reciept.

Hello, Abel. Smile If you look at your CR, it should say what CA is responsible for reporting the collection and how old the debt is (from last deliquent payment). It seems like it's a very small amount. If it's a 'new' debt, I would just pay it. However, when dealing with CA's, I wouldn't give bank account information, etc., to them..I would just send them a certified Money Order. That way you have proof that you paid them. ALOT of CA's say they won't take Monay Orders. But, believe me....if they want their money bad enough, they will accept it. Before you pat them anything,..however...ask them to send you some kind of verification that you owe them the debt.

Sure, send a money order and have it get lost in the mail. Then that money is gone forever because it never made it to the intended destination. I work in collections and I can't tell you how many times I've had someone tell me they sent a money order 30, 60 even 90 days prior to talking to me and it still not showing up. A credit/debit card is the way to go.
