| Does your creditor have to notify you of a past due account before it goes 30 days, other than a statement? |

Hi aboroth
A debt collector will contact you for a debt and within the first 5 days of first contacting you, they will send a written notice mentioning the amount of money you owe, the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money and what action you may take if you believe that the debt is not yours.
Besides this a debt collector expects you to be regular with your payment and may not remind you of collections again unless you are delinquent on a payment. _________________ Keep in touch

| I understand that my question was are they legally obligated to notify me of debt prior to my account going 30 days past due. I ask because I had a credit card which I though had zero balance go 30 days without any notification, other than the statement, as soon as I saw it had a balance I paid it off but is now reporting to the bureau's as a 30 day account. |

| aboroth, I believe they do inform you but I believe the only way they do this is by mailing you the bill. Had you not got the bill that was showing a balance due then I would contact them and let them know you did not recieve a bill. A monthly billing statement is required. I would try calling them and asking them to graciously update your account. If you have always been timely with payments and a good customer many will not have trouble doing this. If you have to stress these points. |

Great advice fireyone, I have one or two that I need to try that with.
Do you suggest writing a letter to them and ask them or calling them up and dealing with it one on one? |

| Thanks for the help everyone. I called and they said they do not do any notification until the account is 90+ days. My credit bureau has been updated that this account was 30+. Is there anyway to get this removed? |

One it hits the Credit report you cannot remove it, unless it is a worng entry
If it is a wrong entry you can alsow dispute the smae
The credit bureau will contact the respective lender and ask them for clarifiation |

| It is a process though, you must file a dispute with the credit reporting agency, you can do this electronically, by writing a letter or by calling them, I found that it is much quicker to call them and have them investigate it, I had something removed with in 10 days by picking up the phone and getting someone on the line. |
