CMRE continues to call me despite the fact that I have informed them that I am not the person whose deliquent bill they are seeking. A google search reveals that I am not the only frustrated person they are doing this to. How can I get them to stop? And further, why are they allowed to do this to so many people? Something seems not right here.

Find out if the attorney generals office in your state takes consumer complaints online or by phone, once you find out, contact them and let them know what is going on. I have always had success no matter what the issue with collectors when using the attorney generals office. They will contact the company directly, or at least that is the way it works here in Pa.

Hopefully they will not sell the information off and the same practice is followed by the next company. It may just be easier to call the phone company and change your number.
