I recently received a copy of my credit report and noticed that there were a number of items on it that were also reported by another company. How do I get this corrected or is it lawful for companies to make multiple reports

Hi BlackDragon,

No they are only suppose to report it once. Now on my credit report I have a couple like that. It is the save creditor but they listed different addresses. If I were you I would send a dispute letter to the CB and try and get it fixed that way.

I probaby was not specific enough when I asked he initial question. There are several collection agencies that are reporting the same items. Is this legal and how do I get the duplicate entries removed?

Wow ya I didn't understand what you were asking. The only thing I can figure out here is your debt has been sold to that many different collection agencies and each one has reported it. As fare as being legal I'm not real sure about that. There are others on here that may be able to help you with this. That has more knowledge of this sort of thing. Sorry for the mix up. Just hang in there someone will be along to help you out.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate what you've done. If anyone else has additional helpful information, it would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hi BlackDragon

Find out who among the collection agencies actually owns your account now (if you are not aware of it yet). Leaving that one aside (if you do owe the debt) dispute the debt with the rest of the CAs. This is one way to go about it and another way would be to dispute the same with the credit Bureau. Once the collection agencies cannot validate this debt (which the Bureaus will ask them to after you dispute it), the Bureaus are supposed to remove it from your report.

Hi carol,

So what would happen if you had already paid the collection off. What could you do to get the other collection agencies to remove their negative listing. Or is there anything you can do since you don't owe them money.
