Since both of you signed the lease I don't think they will remove it until it is paid and there's no guarantee that it will be then. I would try sending the original creditor a pay for delete letter and see if they will remove the negative debt from your report once it has been paid. Make sure to send it certified mail with receipt. So you will have proof that they agreed to remove it after it was paid.
