Is it legal for CCC to report charge off 6 months late?

C/O march before I could make final payment. 3/19/09 to be exact, it is showing up on my report as a charge of as of Sep 09. Is this legal? It is a different date from the original c/o date the rep gave me.

Hi krzyvern

Usually creditors charge off a debt after they have made a futile attempt to collect the debt for a specific period of time, generally 6 months. However, if you feel the date on your report is wrong, you may dispute it.

Hi krzyvern,

Yes just dispute it with the credit agency the should be able to get it fixed for you.

I don't think they will remove it, but they may change the debt to the correct date.

I don't believe this is unusual though, I think they do wait the six month time frame to put them on your report, it is at that point that they have given up collecting it and probably will sell it off.

I think the best you can do with this is have the date removed, unless you call the company and try to make some type of payment arrangement, since it is not that old they may do a pay for delete. Best to take care of it now rather than wait on it to go to collectors or you will have a harder time getting it off there.

Thanks for all the replies.

I talked to a rep, it was c/o after 96 days. PIF in March. She asked was any thing else borrowed, I said no and she couldn't find anything either. So it was reported wrong. They reported my c/o happened in September but the actual date was 3/03/09. She then connected me to the reporting dpt and they informed me that couldn't change the dates.. On my report it shows ND from April til Aug and then c/o.

I have been working so hard to get the credit up, the ex had no regards or bearings and I am the one that got the shaft.

I was doing great and now this.
