2years ago I moved to the US and like a good person I kept up with paying my debts in the UK.
I have a year and a half left to pay on a loan with barclaycard and I recentely tried to get in touch with them to find out how much is left outstanding on the loan.
They updated their systems in the past 2 years and habe no record of me, my old or new address or even the account number for the loan.
I've spoken to everyone in Barclaycard to try and get this info but they have no info on me or my loan at all.
I can't find a routing number which the direct debit (from a hsbc account) for the loan is taken out off and paid in to.
So, my question is this: If i cancel the direct debit can Barclaycard (or their collectors) find me in the USA via my HSBC details and if so, is there any serious reprocussions??
I really would like to know where my money is going to!!!

Hi Brick Wall,

I have no idea how things work in the UK. But I guess if you were dealing with a creditor in the US you could always send the a debt validation letter and ask for proof that the debt is in deed yours. Make sure to send it certified with receipt as proof they got it. If this how they handle this type of thing in the UK. And as far as where your money is going you could try to google the address you send your payment to and see what you come up with.

This forum is based on only American credit issues. Most of our community experts can't say preferably about UK Debts.

Yes, this is very true. Debt collection is very different in other countries and we would only be able to take an educated guess or tell you how you could handle it if it was a US debt. Unforetunately this would really be of no help to you. Try getting a forum that deals with UK debt. Just type something pertaining to what you are looking for in your search engine, being sure to list UK.
