Lottery Winings & a Judgment

I am on SS - my only income - and have no bank accounts or property. I have a 3 year old judgment against me from a Credit Card Bill I couldn't pay.

IF I won $10,000 on a slot machine or in a state lottery (I live in New York State) would the creditor take the money immediately? I know back child support is subject to this type of income. I'm old so that doesn't apply!!

Thank You.

If you put that money into a bank account and they find out it's there than I'm sure they will. If the judge gave them permission to garnish your income then they most likely will.

Thank you for the response. Two years ago when I worked before being permanently laid off they didn't garnish my wages? And, when I was receiving unemployment they didn't touch that either.

I appreciate your help.

As far as your wages are concerned that is surprising because that is usually what they garnish first. Have you checked your accounts to make sure they haven't attach those. And for unemployment they can not garnish that at all. So that may be why they didn't garnish that.
