for one, you need to research any company you will be considering. google the company name followed by "scam" and anything bad other people have ran across will come up [if anything]. second of all, you need to check out the BBB to see if they are an actual legitamit business. read reviews.

not to mention you should always ask questions BEFORE going through with ANY company. Freedom is on here and they seem to be a great company, havent worked with them, but they really do offer great assistance. if you look through the forums, you'll see lots of his postings.
