I have resolved a money issue several years ago with a debt collection agency. Another debt collection company demand the same money from the same issue that was closed.

How - why etc. ?

If you have resolved the issue then you should have the paperwork that showed it was resolved, make sure you send them a copy of it and it should take care of everything.

If you don't have the paperwork then you need to contact the company that you settled it with and get a copy of the resolved paperwork from them.

You can then send it to the company that is trying to collect and any future company that will try to collect.

Ya know..I tried to do this with an outstanding debt that I had. I had the proof, from the OC, that the debt was paid off. A CA sent me a letter, on the SAME debt. According to the letter, the debt was never settled. I called the CA and explained I had a receipt, etc. I also called the OC and explained all of this...the OC did tell me the "debt was settled." If it WAS settled, how can the CA continue to contact me and tell me it wasn't?

Sometimes CAs don't have information about a debt being settled with the OC. So, while it passes from one CA to the other, information might go missing. If you have the required paper works, this shouldn't be a problem.

Also sometimesthe collection agency is hired by the original cerditortocollect the debt. I woudl get the original creditor to contact their debt collection agency and update your account. Sometimes when we see a debt collection compmay trying to collect on a debt we think that the original creditor has sold off that debt but in fact, some really don;t. They just employ the agency to get their money.

Thanks for the replies. That almost makes it impossible to set up arrangements ( if that's what you choose to do) to take care of the debt......because you just don't know who has the correct information. It gets overwhelming and crazy!!!!

If they are hired by the oriiginal creditor they will usually have their stuff together, if you request validation they will hve no problem providing it, etc.

A few CA's that I have dealt with told me they are "not obligated to provide Validation." Oh, please!! I told them.."no Validation, no money." Those certain CA's I didn't hear from again.
