The first thing you need to do is get a copy of your credit report. Then make sure everything is reported correctly on it. Such as bad debts still listed after 7 years. Inquiries listed longer than 2 years ect. After getting a copy of your report and checking it for incorrect listings if you find any let us know and we will be glad to help you fix any that are not listed correctly.

Hi jerrywilliamsh

Yes, begin by checking your credit report and see what are the accounts listed and if all of them are valid. Here are few of the ways by which you may improve your score:

  • If there are a/cs past the SOL, get them removed
  • Remove false information by disputing them with the bureaus
  • Pay off balance dues
  • Don't overuse your existing credit cards
  • Don't run huge balances on your card
  • Use old cards from time to time so that they also get reported and as you must know the older your credit history the better for your score.
  • If you have been a good borrower, you may have good relationship with your creditors. If you do then you may take advantage of it and ask your creditor to remove information like a late payment. This would also improve your score to some extent.

If there is more that you need to know, feel free to ask.

Great advice from everyone above!!! Also....with any existing loans you may have (Student loans, personal loans, etc.) the more you pay down on them the higher your credit score will rise. 'Income to Debt ratio' kind of thing.
