Subject: ING wants me to give them a $1000.00!

Hi everyone,
I recently received a letter from ING (people in charge of my 401K plan at the time), stating I owe them $1000.00 for over payment? They said that there was some type of mistake on their part, that was made during the time (2 yrs. ago)when my employer was switching the company's 401k plan over to ING Direct to take care of. They want me to pay it.

Can I debt validate them, even though I don't believe they are a debt collector as well as a bank?

I do not feel that I should be held accountable for their accounting errors. I am currently unemployed to top it off!

well you can be held responsible for an overpayment but I would investigate this heavily. I would validate this. and I would ask your attorney general for help. This may be negotiable.

If they put the money in by mistake why can't they just take it back out. They may just need you to sign something giving them permission to do so. I would make sure.

Thats what I am wondering. If it were me I would call them and ask. I would also send out validation request. I am assuming the poster does not need the added expense of an atty with the unemployment. How about calling your atty general and asking him to look into the matter. Every state has their own. First off though would be a phone call to ING and if I were still carrying any accounts through them I would soon be moving them.
