Best way to clean credit report of debts from EX.

Hi Experts,

I have read many of the messages on the site. They are great and very informative. I have the following questions. Here's my story...My Experian score is 528. There are 4 entries on the beginning of my report that are in collection, for debts that are from my Ex. I believe that the last payments were made within the SOL for Florida, 5 yrs. I do not think a payment has been made to these accounts in 3 yrs.

Ques1. Are the negative entries at the beginning of a credit report the ones that cause the most damage to the credit score?

Ques2. I am going to send DV letters to the CA. Because I want to pay them and have then removed from the credit report. I will then send a Pay for delete letter.
Should that raise my score? And how long does it take before it has been removed from the credit reporting agencies?

Ques3. At the bottom of the credit report they are alot of old accounts that say closed current that have no activity 2001. Are those good or bad?

Besides the 4 entries in collections, what else would make the report so bad? The rest of the accounts are current with 24 payments in good status.

Thank you for your reponses! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
:)

Hi Sunflower,

Welcome to our community.:)

Whether or not, the entries at the top are the ones that damages credit score the most, I can't tell. But I believe, rather than the place, the negativity matters. However by deciding to send DV letter to the CA, by deciding to pay with the option of pay for delete agreement, you have done the right thing. One thing that I would like to mention is that all these letters should be sent through certified mail. This helps you to retain the proof of your communication with the creditor/collector.

As for your third question, whether or not closed accounts with no activity damage credit score, I will say that it does not damage your credit score. As long as it remains on your credit report you get credit for it.

Besides the four entries, if you have any other dues that have passed the due date, or there are any charge-offs, it can harm the credit score.

yes the negatives are hurting your credit score the most.

DV letter does not equal PFD letter don't combine them

1. Dispute credit report
2. send DV letter or appropriate 623 to each negative
3. If you get proof that the account is yours, hopefully the CA will offer a settlement and you can ask for Pay For Delete

What if the poster is only an authorized user? Can she dispute the listings and get them removed? this is what I was told. I sent a debt validation letter certified mail but most told me since i was AU not to worry. I am wondering if the poster was just listed as AU or a co-signer
