I recently moved in with 3 slovakians and 1 czech. One slovakian is my girlfriend. Before I moved in, a supposed economist from Slovakia was there. I moved all my electronics to the house. (took me 2 years to save up for). Anyway we start to get mail in his name, which he had set up himself for the people living there eg:
Council Tax
Gas + Electric Bill
Tennant Agreement
Bank + Sollicitors
We opened one of his mail as it looked serious....
It was, he owed the bank £6K and he had not paid a penny for 6 months
Now my question is,
If his name is still on any bill but he has left the country, can court or baliffs stilll take OUR possessions to pay his debt?
Hope you understood that...thanks

Hello Swifty, I understand your concerns. We are a United States based site and can not help you out a lot since we are not aware of your laws over there. I would believe that if you could prove the possesions are your then no they could not touch them. this is how it would happen here. I wish I could give you more information but as I said I do not know the laws on debt collection in your counrty. Good luck.

Hello Swifty,

If the debt is not in your name or on other occupants name living with you, nobody can take away your possessions. However you need to prove that you and the one owing the debt are not the same person. You may have to face some problems regarding this, but in that case you can consult a lawyer.

Justin, this person lives in the UK. I would hope that they are protected but we just don't know the law there.

in america it is a federal offense to interfere or open other peoples mail. I can't imagine that it is legal in the UK
