I agree also. Making sure you have that signed receipt is a good idea.

Yes, I too believe that we should always make any correspondence both with the collection agency and the credit bureaus by certified mail so as to keep a proof of the communication. Moreover, sending DV letters and pay for deletion letters by certified mail is always a better option since in case of PFD letters once you pay off the dues, the CA may not be willing to remove it. The certified copy will help you to remove the listing. Again the certified copy of DV letter will help you to send a dispute letter to the credit bureaus.

A wrong addres on your credit report means the credit bureau is reporting inaccurate information and it should, by FCRA be removed, send color copy of returned letter to CRA.

10 years ago I filed for bankruptcy. From then on, I have been doing credit repair on my own and my wifes credit files. It is a full time job just knowing how to handle each negative trade line on your report. There are legitimate credit repair services out there. I used Lexington law, who turned out to be the worst, monthly fee schemers. I did then get tired of the wording, "this item has been verified" letters. So............ I decided to read up on the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
I am now certified. I do credit repair as a part time Job. I have had very good results. It is all in the know how. Took me ten years to learn, but I learned. The draw back to repairing credit is the time involved. Following through on replies, how to handle a collection agencies verification, or validation letter sent back to you. Its like trying to sell real eastate, You need to know what you are doing.

It is a shame they don't remove them. It seems you have made great effort in resolving your credit problems.

It does absolutely no good to pay them off, they do not remove them, and they do not raise your score any.

Yes, if the CA s or the creditor do not remove the listing from your report, it will stay there and lower your credit score even if you pay the full amount. So it is always necessary to make then agree to pay for deletion and get that in writing so that the moment you make the payment, the listing gets removed from the credit report.

I think this should be made aware to the person who is trying to pay off an old debt. More often than not people are not aware that the pay for delete option is there.
