Subject: Ex husbands poor credit on my report - What to do?

Hi I am new to all this, But starting to organize my credit report. I recently got married and shifted to NY. But I have several accounts on my report that are my ex husband's and I am listed as an authorized user. All his bad credit records are being reported. Is there any way to remove them? I was previously in Texas. Am I responsible to pay off his debts if my ex files for bankruptcy?

Hi Ned,

As far as I know, an authorized user is not responsible for the debts owed by the cardholder. But the credit records of card (for which you are an authorized user), will appear on your credit report. I feel you should contact your ex husband, and ask him to get your name removed from the authorized user list. In any case, if your ex husband files for bankruptcy, all the card debts will be included in it.
