I am a college student and I want to build my credit so that I can apply for a car loan without my parents. I know that if I get a credit card and use that and make the monthly payments, this would build my credit but how can i be sure that this will build my credit?

Hi Tracy,

It is always better to earn before you can get a loan of your own. However, as you are a student, it won't be possible for you to do a full time job. You can rather try to get a part time job.

It is not good to use a credit card to pay off the loan. You need to provide more information on your credit so that I or may be others in the forum can help you in building credit.

Thanks,

Aaron

I will be adding my son to my credit cards when he turns 18. That way it will report on his credit and he will benefit from my good credit history to get him started ( but he won't get a card) lol.... I use a little on them every month and pay them off...I never carry a balance. I will get him started in the right direction...but where he goes from there...will see. Hope I have taught him enough to know...he sees it everyday in my line of work...and how important it is to maintain a good FICO score.
