Bureau response after 30 days help

Hi. I'm fairly new at this and this might be a dumb question, but I will ask it anyway. I sent the bureau a dispute letter via certified mail. It as signed as recieved on March 2nd. I didn't get a response until April 9th, and it was dated April 5th. Don't they only have 30 days? Can I use this against them at all?

Hi Beth,

Yes, as far as I know, the credit bureaus are required to inform you within 30 days. However, if you get no information from them, you can first pull a copy of your credit report to check, whether or not these items have been removed from your account. If you find that these items are still there on your report, you can send a second dispute letter to the bureaus, through certified mail.

However, still if the bureaus fail to remove the wrong items, you can file a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.

Actually they have 45 days to respond to disputes filed from your free annual credit report. So if you ordered your free report it is not a time issue

(3) Reinvestigations. Notwithstanding the time periods specified in section 611(a)(1),
a reinvestigation under that section by a consumer reporting agency upon a
request of a consumer that is made after receiving a consumer report under this
subsection shall be completed not later than 45 days after the date on which the
request is received.
