Is it a good idea to get help from credit counseling? I heard it looks bad on your credit report if you are enrolled in these programs. Is it better to try and make the payments on your own?

If you can do it all by yourself, then certainly its better than taking professional help.
You can do them on your own, but if you aren't too confident then counseling is the better option.

Yeah…of course it would be better for you to make your payments on your own. Don’t hire a debt relief company because they will charge a heavy fee. You should try to negotiate with your creditors on your own and set up a payment arrangement with them.
