Subject: Old Hospital Bill

Posted on Mon Nov 10, 2008 12:06 pm

I had an account with a now bankrupt hospital. I was on a pay plan and paid 50 a month for until I was paid off

The last payment I made was in August.

I recently got a call from a collection agency Rubin and Rayne stating they represent IPI who purchased the debt.

I advised it was paid and I am sending proof.

What has me worried is the call stunk of shady collection practices and i am worried about my credit getting affected

They first wanted me just to send them money with no lettter or anything and then they said even if I provide proof of payment it could still be placed on my credit report and it could be sent to another agency

My score isnt great but I have no negative accounts ever just a lot of cc's.
I'm fearing if the hospital bill shows up, it will raise the interest rate on all my account.

Any advice? Can an attorney help? Cost isnt an issue

Closely monitor your credit report, you can get three free ones, one from each credit report agency a year. If it shows up then you should send the proof of payment to the reporting agencies also. This is done through filing a dispute, you can do it online, however in your case I would do a written dispute and provide copies of your payment in full to them at that time.

Goodluck, if you need any thing else please come on back and post your question here. Keep us updated please.

Its hard emough keeping up with bills as it is and then something like this occurs. I really hope the poster has proof of the pay off. The OP could even send this along to the atty general when trying to get them to step in. I just can not understand why the hospitol did not mark this bill paid. I had one similar to this and after three payments and none that would register I just quit paying.

Hi 2005Crossfire
Since you have already paid off the debt in full on monthly repayment plans to your creditor, you must be having the proof that you have paid them off. Now, you can pull out your credit report to find out whether the name of the CA who is calling you for the debt again is listed in your report. If their name is not listed, you need not worry, but if it is listed, then send them a debt validation letter by certified mail. I am sure they cannot validate the debt because you have already paid the dues.

I think that Mary is right. Since you have already paid off the debt, you need not pay it again. Now since they are just forcing and threatening you to pay the money again, you can be sure that they will not be able to provide you with proper validation of the debt. Now if they still disturb you with the debt, you can send them a cease and desist letter which will stop them from calling you.

You can definitely send a C and D letter if they still disturb you with the debt as Anthony said. Now if they sue you to the court, you need not worry because you have the payment receipts you made towards the debt with you. However, you should always file response to the court summon if they send you one. Else a default judgment may be passed against you.

Maybe the problem is that I expected it to be easy and learned too late that is extremely challenging. The difficulty of life combined with the disapointment brought by major experience (love, work, friendship) keeps me up or makes me bury my head under the pillow.

Nothing should make you bury your head under a pillow. Not trying to sound rough here but if you dont step up to the plate and take care of your problems they won't go away on there own. First off do you need any help wiht debts or/and collectors? If so give us some detail and we will surely help out. You take a chance of being sued if you don;t get on top these things fast.

You are right fireyone, puttting your head under the pillow is not gonna solve anything, deal with it and get it over with. If you give us more information we can help you out.

Hi Carrie
Credit repair does work in improving your credit score, but for that you need to start repairing your credit by yourself. If you can remove the hard inquiries from your credit report you credit score will improve because each hard inquiry lowers your credit score by as much as 5 points. Now you can also remove the CA listings by sending DV letters to the CA. If they validate your debt, go for PFD agreement to pay off the debt. However, if they cannot validate your debt, send dispute letters to the bureaus and ask them to remove the listing. Removing the debt listings will improve the credit score.

Hi Carrie
I think that Carol has explain clearly of how to repair your credit by yourself. If you want to repair your credit, there is no need to sign up with the credit repair agencies, because you can use the money which you will pay to the credit repair agencies to pay back the debt if you do it by yourself. However, if you need debt counseling, you can post you queries here and we can help you out with your problem

We all know from either knowledge or experience that no one can help you better than you can help yourself you just need to ask. Justin hets the nail on the head here when he mentions credit repair agencies. This site is very experienced in guiding people through the repair process if they want to learn and fix their credit. I am not sire exactly what credit repair agencies charge but I am sure it has to be in the hundreds and probaly depends on how many and how much debt a person has. This money can be applied to the outstanding debts instead of lining anothers pocket. I hope this individual will let us help them back up. Quiting should not be an aoption and there is ALWAYS hope.
