My husband stopped paying some credit cards after falling ill and being hospitalized. This happened over 7 years ago. How can i got about getting these past due account removed from his credit report?
Any information will help.

P.S. They have all been sold or "charged off" to debt collectors

Hi Stace,

Can you tell the date when your husband has last gone delinquent on each of these accounts, and the state where you live in? To remove the negatives from your husband's credit report, you people need to pay the debts off. However, the charge-off falls off after 7 years from the report. Thus, check whether or not there are any such accounts which have been charged off 7 years ago?

While you will be making the payment agreement with the collectors, request them to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. If they agree to a PFD, then the accounts will get reported as "Paid". All the negatives on that account will get removed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Aaron

if this is over 7 years old then they cannot list on your report. Don't PFD. run your credit report on annual credit report dot com and tell us what is there.

Hi Stacee,

We all stumble upon hard-times at point in our lives....You and your husband can certainlyget these off. It takes a strong will and persistence. IF the statue of limitations have passed you can write each creditor informing and reminding them that these are no longer valid due to the SOL.

Go hard and be confident, be respectful and courteous and they will work with you in an effective way.

Good Luck
