Subject: How to remove unauthorized hard inquiries?

I cosigned for a credit card for my friend from a XYZ company. He stopped paying and now I have noticed that the credit card company has pulled my reports twice in the last 2 months. Both listed under hard inquiries. I just wanted to ask the community if they are allowed to do so.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Hi ebne,
You cannot stop a creditor from pulling your credit report, if he has a permissible purpose. "Permissible purposes" are some specific situations, (defined under the FCRA rules) when a creditor can pull your report, without your prior permission. In your case, as you cosigned for your friend's credit card and he stopped making payments, the card issuer pulled your report to review your records.
In fact, by cosigning for the credit card, you are legally responsible to make repayments for the outstanding debt. So you should not be surprised, if the card company contacts you to pay off the debts incurred by your friend. _________________ Looking forward to a debt-free life. |

Hi ebne,
Generally, a hard inquiry remains on your report for 2 years. To remove the hard inquiry before 2 years, you can send the credit card company a "Letter for Removal of Hard Inquiry". _________________ SCOTT

ebne, since you cosigned there is a permissible purpose to pull your report. that means that you probably cannot remove them or stop them from pulling again.
Look, inquiries do effect your credit but it is ridiculous to pay anyone money to remove them. it is normal for your existing creditors to pull your credit. when a lot of non existing creditors pull your credit it looks like you are applying for credit and getting turned down which is negative _________________ CMRRR Templates
