Need to remove item from my report

I am trying to pay off an old debt to k-mart that was handled by Americas Recovery Network. The phone number that I found for them is disconnected, and they don't have a current one listed that I can find. They were in Covington, KY. I've called K-mart, but they are clueless as to who would have the account, and I am no longer in their system (this is an old check written to them in 2003). Any suggestions to get this removed from my report?

First of all try pulling your credit report and see if the number and address are listed there. I found a listing where they are suppose to be located at 101 Crisler Avenue st 202
Crescent springs KY 41017. The following phone number was also listed 859-491-7795. I hope this will get you somewhere. I would also advize checking the BBB and seeing if they are a crditable collector.
Since your debt seems to be an older one you may want to check your states SOL. If it is past you may have a chance at getting this debt settled for less. Just remember to make any payments you promise because if it is past SOL you could restart the time clock.

I checked it out on the BBB and they have no rating with the BBB. I think it was 21 complaints in the last 36 months and most of them were resolved. Not too bad for a collection agency. I would try a debt validation letter first and if that doesn't work try sending them a pay for delete letter for a lesser amount.

That is if it isn't past your states SOL ofcourse!

Good luck

Since the debt is handled by Americas Recovery Network, I would also suggest you to send a debt validation letter to them. However, before sending a DV letter check whether the SOL in your state has expired or not. If it has expired there is no need to bother about the debt, but if it has not expired, send a DV letter and try to settle for less with a PFD agreement.

Yes, Anthony is correct. If you want to send a DV letter to Americas Recovery Network, you can send it at the following address
100 Crisler Avenue
Crescent Springs, KY 41017
You can also call them at 859-491-7795

Looks like some good advice given here. Sears has taken over K mart. All in all I am not surprised that you are having trouble with them. After my experience in the store with them yesterday I will not shop there. I entered their store with a oackage from Sears. Their beeper went off and they pulled my package to search it. How could anything be taken if I just entered the store, they were rude. As soon as they seen the receipt and I said are you satisifed? I informed them that I would no longer be a customer there. Sometimes these places treat you just like bill collectors.

Hey credit pro... I have heard of chexsystems. Can you explain how it works? I can not use a check and haven't been able to for years. Everytime I get turned down I call the number on the slip of paper theygive me and the people at that number always tell me they can not see why I can not use a check but yet nothing is ever done about it. I am wondering if it is from an old closed account from when my bank went under years ago or what.

Plain and simple ChexSystems is just another credit bureau. Anytime you want to open a bank account, banks run a chexsystems report. Anytime people write bad checks, that info gets reported to chexsystems. Its the same as everything else. Chex Systems also falls under the FCRA so once you get a report you dispute everything the same way.

I am having the same problem as you, with the same company for the same company (kmart). I have a number of 866-491-7795 with the address in covington, ky. Everytime I call I am greeted by an automatic service that asks me to leave a message and to expect a return phone call within 48hrs. Needless to say it has been 7 days later and I have not received a call yet. My attorney informed me to contact the credit bureau to dispute the entry. They credit bureau have to investigate the matter and if they can not contact the collection agency the bureau will close out the entry.

I hope that helps.

I have an idea for an contact location - there is the PlanetFeedBack web site, if you go in there and write up a letter it will lead you to an address look up for various branches of companies.

You can always back out of writing the letter and just snag the address.

I just checked the Kentucky Secretary of State website for contact information on America's Recovery Network. The company filed it's last annual report in 2006, was administratively dissolved 2007, and the registered agent resigned 5-24-11.
