Garnish wages in NY

This is probably a dumb question but I am going to ask it anyways. Can a payday loan company garnish wages if I live in NY? I did send the letters saying that I revoke anything I signed...but I am just curious.

Yes, payday loan company can garnish your wages only when they are licensed in your state. But payday lending is prohibited in NY. So obviously the lenders in this state are also illegal. Illegal lenders can’t take any legal action against you. Close down your old bank account and open a new one.

Yes, creditors can gaserihnd your fees you received as a contractor when they find you who has hired you. When you started to work as a contractor the company who has hired most likely had to report it was hiring you so yes, there is a chance to have your fee gaserihnd.When you receive a 1099 you are not receiving wages, you are receiving fees for services rendered.Employees have wages and they receive a W-2 form.
