Subject: Improving credit score

Posted on Sat May 08, 2010 5:44 am

I want to improve my credit score and I want to do it myself because it's not possible for me to give money to credit counseling companies. Thus, I want to do it as economically as possible. Where is the best place to get a free credit report. I have a bankruptcy from 5 years ago and I am sure there are some inaccuracies as well.

Thanks in advance

Hi Karess,

For improving your credit score you need not join any credit counseling company. You can try self improving your score. To do that you first need to pull a copy of your credit report. Check that minutely for any wrong listings, and negative listings.

Try disputing the wrong listings if there are any. Send dispute letters to the credit bureaus for removing any wrong listings from your report. If there are any such debts that you think has been wrongly listed, first send debt validation letters to the company or collection agency reporting this. If the debt has not been incurred by you, they won't be able to validate your debt properly. You can then dispute this item with the credit bureaus.

If there are any negative listings like delinquencies, try becoming current on those accounts. This will help you in improving your score.

Thanks,

Aaron

Karess, aaron gives you really goood advise. You definately can work on your own credit report. Do as above and you can always come back here to this forum if you have any questions or you need information on how to address any matters. The help here is free and there are very knowledgable members who can help guide you. Good Luck.

'Working' on your own credit may take some time. However......that way, you're not payiong someone else to look at your CR and you can try to improve it on YOUR 'schedule'..not someone else's.
