I have a company ringing my phone off the hook for a card that is not mine, they have the wrong person, how can I make them stop, I have repeatedly told them, I am not who they are looking for.

Hi Becky...who is the company? um if they constantly calling you, you should tell them firmly over the phone to desist all communication with you by way of the phone and you may have to send a cease and desist letter to them. there's a format on the debt forum, many actually. if you type in cease and desist in the search bar at the upper right hand corner you'lll see numerous posts and templates. let us know how things are, and welcome

I have the same problem, sometimes. Capital One calls here, asking for someone who doesn't live here. I tell them that, and they act like they don't believe me. They call with a 'private number', so..I can't find out where to call back. What do I do?..any suggestions?

I have had MANY calls like this on my cell phone. The only phone I have. I have had this number for almost 2 years. During this time, I been getting calls for a certain person. They keep asking for the same person. I have had Macy's, Various CC companies, people inquiring about her "services" (that was an interesting call to say the least), the girl scouts wanting to know if this lady was interested in buying cookies again this year, you name it... It was kinda getting out of hand...

I just explained to them this is not her number anymore. Please remove it from your list. Everyone was cooperative, except for one. The only one giving me a problem was the Scottsdale Macy's. They were PITA.... But after third time of "talking" :D to them, they quit calling.

If none of this works for you.. Simply call your State's attorney general and place your number on the do not call list. That would be a start...

I've called the 'do not call list' several times. STILL.......i get 'wrong numbers'. I heard that there is going to be a list ( a directory list) for cell phones, too. Is this true...........does anyone know??

I would get as much information as possible and file a complaint with the attorney generals office, especially for you Pennsylvania folks, they AG office will contact them directly after you file the complaint. You will get results, I know that they have been a very productive resource for me. You can file the complaint online, it takes about two minutes and they respond in about two weeks.

Hey sdchargers....

There has been talk in congress the last couple of years regarding the cell phone issue. Every year they have been pressured not to allow cell phone numbers to become public knowledge like home phone numbers...

I say lets keep the pressure on...

I don't know if there is a cell phone do not call list, with all the people dropping their home phone and just using the cell phone as their primary phone I would hope they would put something into effect like this.

Well, the last year or so some of the Collection Agencies have been raising a fuss about publishing Cell Phone numbers.. They claim they are entitled to know all our phone numbers so that they can contact us....

If we loss the right of protection of our cell numbers, which we could possibly lose in the future, than thats just another freedom we will lose.

I work for a call center for a credit card that is designed for people who have bad credit. Many times people will call in and ask to be put on the 'Do Not Solicit List'. Our company makes a note of it in the database and usually our customers request a cancellation and we honor their request. Or you can put yourself on the national do not call list but unfortunately it doesn't work for every company. we really do try to honor people's request though I know that my friends say that they are having issues with companies calling.
Sun, I completely agree. I thought that Americans still have certain freedoms including their phone numbers! why else give us the option of listing our numbers??

That is cool desiree that you guys honor requests, I don't think the collection agencies would care. I just can imagine the phone bill if they were using up all your time with as many times as they call.

If I wanted the ENTIRE world, to have my cell number, I would give it to them!!LOL I have friends, who have ONLY cell phones...for the reason they don't want alot of people able to 'look them up'. That SHOULD be a 'private thing', I would think.

I registered there myself. All my numbers house phone and all three cell phones. I hear they can contact you on your cell now. It all gets ridulous after a while.
