Account verified by bureau

I have been trying to work on my credit report, I wrote some dispute letters to the credit bureaus regarding one account that is being reported on all three reports. This account an account that I have never had. I figured it would be no big deal right, they made a mistake and it would be removed no problem.

However, I just received the bureaus "results" and the account is still on my reports, they verified it. How can they verify an account that I know does not belong to me?

So my question is what do I do now? They are claiming I owe them $520.00, and I refuse to pay this account but what other options do I have? I have already paid all of my old debts sure not going to pay for one that does not belong to me. This is very concerning and frustrating.

Have you tried contacting the company directly and dealing with it? You can send them debt validation and when they can not validate it then the credit reporting agencies should act then. Make sure that you send the validation certified mail and return reciept requested so they can not say that they did not recieve it. Once you have done this there should be no problem getting rid of it or at least you have some ammo to fight with.

who is the company? Do you have contact information on them? Who did the credit reporting agencies contact to verify this? Sometimes I wonder if they do actually check them out.

Hi Jada,

Can you tell whether or not you have ever tried to validate this debt with the collection agency? If you have not, you can now send a debt validation letter to the collection agency immediately.

You will get a sample debt validation letter with this community. You can use that to write one of your own. Send the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. If the collection agency fails to validate the debt, you can use the validation proof to dispute the debt with the bureaus.

Thanks,

Aaron

You need to dispute this debt directly

What state do you live in?
how old is this debt?
who is the original creditor?
Is the negative tradeline a Collection Agency or the Original Creditor?
