A collection agency has agreed to delete an item from my CR once payment is received, however, they are unwilling to provide me with a pay to delete letter? How do I know that they will fulfill their part of the agreement? What is other recourses do I have?

tell me about the debt.

what is the orginal creditor?

when did this account become delinquent (last payment)?

tell them no letter no pay. They are probably planning to rip you off.

Hi Mannie,

You can send them a "Pay for deletion letter" (PFD) on your part. Send the PFD letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. Never go in for any kind of agreement without getting the agreement in writing. You will be able to get a sample PFD letter at http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/pay-for-delete.html . You can use this sample letter to write one according to your own situation.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

Actually Aaron there are states where sending a signed agreement to pay will reset the SOL. eek.

Also a PFD letter that is not on their letterhead and not signed by the CA isn't worth much more than the phone conversation. I am concerned about these guys. I think they may be trying to trick this person.

What if I'm getting a letter from a collection agency but they are NOT on my credit report? If I agree to pay them, they have nothing to delete and the original creditor does not respond to any letters.

It shouldn't be posted on your report, but have a specific discussion with them. Ask for a letter stating the debt is satisfied and there is no collection account and no report. it costs money for them to report and they should agree
