Hi there, I am new to this site (wish I had found it sooner) and I recently got a medical collection on my credit report. I validated with the hospital that the debt was indeed mine and was sent to collections. I contacted the CA over the phone, and was told that the only way to get the account deleted from my credit report was to pay the debt in full today, and send a letter explaining I had no prior knowledge of the debt.Which I didn't.
They say they contacted me by mail, but I never recieved anything. Well, I did pay it in full over the phone, and am about to type and fax the letter. Any advice? My overall score really isn't that bad, but this alone dropped it from 750 to 690 so I definately want it off as quickly as possible.

You have validated the debt with the hospital but not with the collection agency. Unless you ask for debt validation from the collection agency you cannot be sure that the debt has been sold off to the CA and you are responsible to pay off the debt to the CA. Delinquent listing gives a negative impact on your credit score and so the score has gone down to 690.

Hi Guest
If the collection agency agrees to remove the listing from your credit report, you should first get the pay for deletion agreement in writing before you pay it off. This is because if you do not get it in writing and pay off the debt, you will have no other option to remove the negative item from your report if they do not remove it after you pay off the debt.

I recently was told that I should stop paying monthly (though sometimes not every month) to the collections agency that has my medical bills. I was told I needed to find a credit repair that would contact the collections because my hospital has nothing to do with it. This person said to find a credit relief that would have my medical bills erased off my report? This collections has items on my report that are open/owed with 0 balances so there still screwing me. I am getting disability and can not afford to make 4 to 5 $300.00 payments to each. Help any advice????
