I noticed on my credit report that there is a debt from the original creditor and also the same debt is also listed from a collection agency. Can both parties keep reporting this debt?

Yes, if debt is sold by the original creditor to a collection agency, and if before selling it off, the OC reports the account as delinquent in your credit report, then both the OC and the CA listing will stay in your credit report for seven years against the debt. However, if you can make the collection agency agree to pay for deletion agreement, then after paying off the debt the CA listing will be removed from your report, but the OC listing will stay there for seven years.
