I know that bad accounts are surpose to stay on your report up to 7 years. Does anyone know which ones can be removed before 7 years is up?

Hi Debra,

Legally, I don't think it is possible to remove any of the negative items from a credit report before 7 years. While paying off any collection or late payments, you can request the creditor or the CA to remove the negative item and report it accordingly to the credit bureau. Otherwise, once it has got listed and the information is correct, there is no way you can get any negative item removed from your credit report.

Ok I guess I was confused on the up to part. Thats like with my chapter 7 I thought everything that was included in it was surpose to stay on your credit report for 10 years as well. But it doesn't that is also treated as a bad account and removed after 7 years. The fact that you filed stays for 10 years.

Hi Ruthie,

I'm pretty new at cleaning up my credit report as well, So I don't won't to give you the wrong answer but I believe they can. As far as proving it i'm not sure but maybe the SOL may be a solution. There are alot of very helpful people on here so i'm sure one of them will know more about this than I do.

Thankyou, I really appreciate all the help I can get. I just don't think our government should be able to allow these agencies to do business like this. It hurts our economy. No credit, no job no economy. But we can send our kids overseas to die for all this. Its just not fair or right. Ruthie.... One day at a time.

Hi Ruthie,

Has it been 8 years since the last time it was sold? Or has it been sold several times in 8 years? Because if it has been 8 years since it has been sold it should have fallen off last year. And if that is the case you would have to dispute it with the credit agencies and they should remove it. But if they have sold it several times and you paid on it then the SOL started all over again and it's not to much you can do put pay it. I would check your state to see what the SOL is and then check your credit report to see the date of last payment. If the SOL has past then they cannot collect from you. So do not pay them any thing because it will cause the SOL to start all over again and then you are responsible for paying it.But if it has past send them a SOL letter and let them know it has past and they shouldn't try and collect from you again or sell it to another collection agency.
