Hello,

Here's my question, due to financial problems stemming from a divorce I was unable to pay credit cards back in 1997 and the cards were charged of within months of non-payment. They still remain on my credit report. How do I go about having these items removed?

thanks for any help you can give me

Usually........a 'Charge Off' we be on your CR for 7.5 years. You said you have already looked on your CR?..if you did, there is, what you call, a 'Fall-Off' date ( the date that the debt should come off your credit). If that date has passed, and the debt is STILL on your CR, you can 'Dispute' the CB's and tell them about the passing date. MORE than likely, the CB's will remove the item.

If you happen to have a collection letter or bill statement from when it first became Past Due, send a copy of this directly to the credit reporting bureaus along with a request for "fall off."

Certified, of course.
