Hi,
My husband have 3 student loans but on his credit report they are listed 12 times. Some have chargeoff some have bankruptcy 7. But we are still paying them and on time. Is this hurting his credit scores? And if so, how do I go by having them removed?

Thanks
Justin

Hi asecondchance,

First, I think you need to dispute with the CRA regarding the inaccurate number of listings on your report. Send a dispute letter to the CRA stating what the inaccuracy is and that you are asking them to remove it.

Having 'charge-off' and 'bankruptcy 7' in your credit report can definitely affect credit scores negatively. I don't think much can be done about the bankruptcy part since it stays on the credit report for 10 years. However, you can strike a deal with your creditor regarding the removal of 'charge-off' from your report. Write a
pay for delete letter to the creditor asking him to remove the negative item from your list against the debt amount which you are paying. Now that you are paying the debt amount regularly, I think the creditor will not have a problem accepting your proposal.
