| How were they going to fire you? Are you talking aqbout working a 'civilian' gov job? Well....maybe go down to your local gov building and see what they have. usually county, federal, etc..they will do credit/background checks. Pretty strict about that. I work a county job and they do both. I'm also in the Militay..and YEP...they check it all!! |

| I think Carol is right. To get a better government job, you need to have a good credit score. Whenever you apply for a government job, your employer will review your credit report to get an overall idea about you before offering you the job. A good credit score is essential not only for government job, but also for private sector. Now-a-days many reputable private companies also review applicant’s credit report before offering him/her a job. |

Ok, heres my question......my son hung himself, I found him..... and I subsequently went into a deep depression and lost EVERYTHING within 3 months. That clearly makes me irresponsible.........yeah, right.
Regarding the thumb screws.....I'm with ya. I am as responsible as they get, but to ASSUME that anyone is a thief or irresponsible based on a credit reporting system that is extremely inaccurate (more than 67% of the time, which, by the way, is a fact) is absolutely appalling.....at best. |

hello, 'SHOCKED'...........I just don't know what to say about the situation with your son. I'm so sorry.
The issue of basing who you are on a credit score IS terrible..I DO agree. I know the 'best' people (had trouble with debt because of divorces, etc) and have very low credit scores and trying to re-build their credit. ALOT more GOV jobs check credit scores ( I don't agree, either), but, I suppose it depends on what position (through the GOV) you are seeking. |

| Overall, I would contend that using information in a credit report as a criteria for hiring is outright wrong; save for the types of jobs that involve extensive money handling. I have heard many of the arguments for it. The most common ones are: it is a reflection of one's trustworthiness and responsibility. The problem is that there are myriad of other factors that can make up the equation causing one to have a less than pristine credit report; most of which have little to do with personal character or trustworthiness. From what I can tell, this trend toward using credit reports as criteria for hires, while having progressively gained steamed over the last 15 years or so; is gradually reversing itself. Two states, in fact, (Hawaii, Washington) have done away with the practice nearly altogethor. Hopefully this reversal process will soon pick up steam and the practice become outmoded soon. |

| Justin is right. It has a lot to do with taking bribes. There are also a lot of government jobs that require some sort of clearance. |

This not fair-ex: You lose your job and all bills are paid-you do n ot find work for a year. How can this say that you can't pay your bills?
How can you say that poss employee can't do the wok?
This is discriminatory in nature. |

| You have to remember..when 'lenders', gov., etc., see your credit report or background check, all they see is what is in front of them. ALOT of people have fallen on 'hard times', lately. Were you trying to apply for a Federal job? If you don't mind me asking, ..where? |

| I was recently interviewed for a federal position and I am really worried that my credit score is not high enough. Can anybody give me a range of a good credit score. I would appreciate it!!!! |
