Hi,

I just checked my credit reports last week and found a collection for a valid medical debt that was just put on. I called the medical office and they verified it. So, I asked if I make the payments will they delete it off my reports? The person asked me to call the CA and they said they would. But i wanted a letter stating that they would remove it if I paid.

Now, they have sent me the letter, its on there letterhead. The only thing I question is it says if its not off in 30 days to dispute it. Now if they say its paid and tell the CRA's to remove it why would there be any chance of it being on there in 30 days?

The letter:

August 18, 2010

my name
my address

CBR ACCOUNT # XXXXXXX
SSN: XXX-XX-XXXX
ORIGINAL CREDITOR: XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX
ORIGINAL ACCOUNT # XXXXXXXX

Original Balance $ 436.00

Payment Date: August 18, 2010

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXXX:

When payment in full has been received on the above referenced account, a request will be sent to Trans Union, Equifax, Experian, and CBC Innovis on September 8, 2010 to have this derogatory item deleted from your credit file. If it is still being reported on any report 30 days after that date please dispute the information through the individual credit reporting agency. If you need any further assistance with this account, please feel free to call me at XXXXXXX, ext. XXX.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXX XXXXXX

Hi Derrill,

This is a PFD agreement. You can go forward and make the payments. However, just check if the letter is properly signed. If it is signed, then check whether or not the person has the real authority to offer you this agreement and sign the letter.

The only thing I question is it says if its not off in 30 days to dispute it. Now if they say its paid and tell the CRA's to remove it why would there be any chance of it being on there in 30 days?

Sometimes the credit bureaus take time to delete items from your credit report. Thus, the collection agency has mentioned about the dispute.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Aaron

all this means is that you may need to forward this letter to the CRAs to speed up the deletion. I would ask them for a 2nd letter upon receiving payment that just says we have requested deletion of this account.

Hi cinnamangrl,

I would ask them for a 2nd letter upon receiving payment that just says we have requested deletion of this account.

Well that's a nice idea :)
