I have been staying home with our daughter and plan to do so for the next few years. My husband makes close to 100,000 per year and has clean credit. My credit leaves much to be desired. We plan to move to Virginia in a year or so and I'm wondering if it is possible for my husband to apply for a lease or mortgage loan in his name only to leave my credit out of it since I will have no income to contribute. I would only be adding to our debt.

Yes of course he can. Here is the thing and this is more of family law thing, but the house is in his name and you are leaving the work force for some years. Did you get a prenup?

If you have a year, why not tell us a little about your credit and see if we can improve it. You can always get the mortgage in his name if it doesn't work.

go to annualcreditreport.com and have them send copies of your report from the big three. That is the first step.

Cinnamon gives good advice. A year is quite a long time and if you have some marks that are not good on your credit you may be able to take care of them by then. Also this site is very good in giving advice on ways to raise your credit score. a little more information will help us get you in the right direction.

Hi Guest,

The very first thing that you should do is get a copy of your credit report from all the three credit bureaus- Transunion, Equifax, Experian. Their fax and phone numbers are below:

Transunion: Fax number-610-546-4605 or 610-546-4758
Phone number (800) 888-4213.

Equifax: Fax number-888-664-4535 or 888-729-0083
Phone number (800) 685-1111

Experian:Phone number (888) 397-3742
Experian does not have a fax number, so you can contact them through the phone number given above.

After you get the report, check if there are any negative listings on your credit report. If there are, you should try to pay the dues or the charged off accounts. However if there are any wrong listing on your credit report, dispute those with the bureaus.

However you need not worry much as one year is ample time to take care of your credit score.

Thanks.

annual credit report is a good site for getting your reports. I have used this myself and have continued to do so. You will find it a very easy site to navigate.
