I give and give as much as I can afford, I always think that the organizations will do the right thing with the money that they get donated, that may be naive of me, but I always try to find the good in people. Hopefully, I am not being fooled. I did not know the bell ringers were paid, I guess you can't expect them all to stand out there in the weather and ring the bell for nothing. I know some of the banks and companies let their staff go and pay their wages while they are there, but I did not know the individuals were paid.

Hey dadummy...you are doing a lot of charity here. Its really nice to hear that. If you can you should always go ahead and help people.

On the lighter part I love to donate and gift but trying to take care that I am not put into the group where I would require charity myself. Just kidding Wink

Sounds like your are a good person dadummy, do you keep track for tax write offs? I know when I worked for a nonprofit, we would give reciepts to people for their taxes at the end of the year.

No, I don't do it enough to get a tax deduction, dropping in the pots or giving to a charity event, they don't have reciept books there with them. I never thought about it, but now that I do, I really don't think the amount would through me over for deductions anyway.

It was just a thought, I am not even sure what you need for deductions anymore, I just break even every year, I don't know if I will do that this year. I hate tax season.

I don't really care for tax season myself good, it is a headache to me, I usually have someone else do them for me.

Ok, since none of us care for them, lets get back to the holiday stuff then, I am getting all my christmas cards addressed and ready to go. Got some really nice ones at the dollar store this year, I could not believe how nice they are for the price. They will go out two weeks before christmas, should be plenty of time. Got to buy my book of stamps sometime here soon.

Tax can be really taxing dadummy.

I had to do it all by myself even a year back but now I let someone do it for me. I have to look into it though because I have to be sure that there remains no mistake in the filings and all. I dont want the federal law to sue me outright. Laughing

I am letting someone else do it for me this year, I did not report something by mistake, it came in after I filed and I really did not think it was significant, WRONG, I got notice this year that I owe them. So set up the old payment plan.

I seen a report on the news that the bell ringers are not allowed to be ringing so much anymore. Apparently an enthusiastic bell ringer almost caused a shopper an injury to her head, so the stores asked the organization if they could just stand there and ring every now and then. Some of the bell ringers said that it has affected contributions. Alot of them are not happy about it, it would not matter to me if they rang it or not, it would not affect my decision to give or not anyway.

Never heard that about bellringers, but I could see something like that happening and someone suing the store or the agency. I guess it would be a potential insurance risk, next thing you know you will see the attorneys that talk about slip and falls in the winter on television, talking about, "were you injured by a swinging bell?" I could see some people suing over this.

Are you kidding me??? how on earth did someone get a potential injury to the head? I mean if I were a ringer (and God love them for braving the public and the elements) i wouldn't wanna hear that all the time either, but i'm sure that it has affected contributions. Hey that's a writing topic, people injured by bells, sounds like an Edgar Allan Poe poem 'the bells bells bells bells bells'
for heavens sake! Dadummy, I truly believe that if you offer up your donations that you will always be rewarded (not materialistically) but in many other ways. Your heart is in the right place when you give that's all that matters. if your money is mishandled that's between them and their maker Smile I've always heavily believed that. I think it's beautiful you give when you can! you're not the only one on this forum who gives, there are lots of people with pure intentions (hey I want an angel emoticon, since we have a devil! )
Glad to hear you got your Christmas cards going, Good, I think we're going to take a group pic this year and make those cards that you send out, easy. and if i wanna write something on the back i can. Mr. Green

I find it to be a very good idea debt. But head injury through a bell is ridiculous. I just love the sound till it bangs onto my head.

LOl, that's just a funny image in my mind, not you being beaned by a bell,Laura, but that someone in general could get an injury. I mean, yeah sure, if you make the ringer mad at you, those bells could probably become a weapon, other than that they're harmless!
