ANY credit can be repaired. Read the FCRA, FDCA and your local state laws on collections. Then send DV letters to all of the accounts that belonged to your father and dispute them with the CBs. Once you have the SR?JR issue straight Begin to work on your other accounts. The ones that are still open try to work out a repayment plan ASAP. Try to get them to agree to remove the latepayment listing off your account once your paid up. I'll post a goodwill letter you can use. Then Send DV letters ti all of the CAs and inquirys on your CR. Make everylast one who cant prove by the FCRA standards that you owe them $$$ remove their listings. The ones that seem as though they will be able to verify send PFD offers.

Remember:
READ THE FCRA
READ YOU LOCAL STATE LAWS ON DEBT COLLECTIONS AND SOLS!
NO PHONE DEALS! ALL USPS CERTIFIED MAIL

Re: Acct # XXXXX
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you today regarding my cellular phone account #XXXXX with Cingular Wireless-SNE which I had while I was an Psychology student at MY STATES University. The purpose of my correspondence is to see if you would be willing to make a "goodwill" adjustment on the reporting of this account to the three credit agencies.
During the time period this account was established I had was very happy with the service, I was however not the ideal customer and made mistakes with my handling of the account. I should have kept better records regarding the account and I take full responsibility. I became aware of the unpaid balance when I got a copy of my credit report in June of 2004.
I know that payment was my responsibility and I am not attempting to justify this breach of my user agreement, I was however hoping you might review the circumstances under which this non-payment occurred and consider removing the negative trade line associated with this account from my three credit reports.
As soon as I became aware of the balance I contacted Nationwide Recovery Systems and paid the balance in full. I provide this not to justify why the account was unpaid, but rather to show that the issue with Cingular Wireless is not a good indicator of my actual credit worthiness. I hope that Nationwide Recovery Systems is willing to work with me on erasing this mark from my credit reports.
I would like to STRESS that the information currently being reported IS accurate, (I am not disputing anything with Nationwide Recovery Systems). I am simply asking Nationwide Recovery Systems for a courtesy gesture of goodwill in having the credit bureaus remove this account from my report. I do recognize that this request is unique and that it may not be Nationwide Recovery Systems normal policy. Please consider that the Fair Credit Reporting Act does not demand that all accounts be reported, only that any account that is reported be reported accurately. Therefore, a company does have legal discretion and permission to remove any account it chooses from the credit report. I'm hoping that Nationwide Recovery Systems will do that in my case for this account.
Your kind consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Best Regards

Hi royneal70
Although it is true that the negative element will stay in your credit report for 7 years under normal circumstances, you can always try and remove them from your credit report. For this you need to send a DV letter to the CAs along with dispute letters to the reporting agencies and follow the steps CMBV suggested. I think it will solve your purpose.

Also may I suggest when diputing with the CRA, dispute specifics, never dispute account is not mine. This si too easy to verify. You will want to dispute specific neg. or your report. Such as I wasnt 60 dyas late (then give dates where it says you were late on those month). DOFD is incorrect. I was never 120 days late. Balance on account is wrong. Make the CRA do their work. A lot of the times they wont be able to verify specificsd and have to delete.

I sent out disputes to the credit bureau using this method and should be recieving a response any day now. So I will let you know what happens and post the letter if it works. Also just a warning when disputing with experian through the mail make sure you include a copy of your liscense, a copy of your phone bill, and put your ss#, full name including middle and current address,(also previous address if less than 2 years) with your dispute. Otherwise they will send you back saying they were unable to verify that it was you disputing. They are a bunch a lazy a-holes.

I got my results back today and I am psyched. Man I got a bunch of things removed. From transunion I had 1 assest acceptance, 1 lvnv, 1 NCO Financial(and the BOA it was trying to collect from) and a wachovia removed. My score increased 75 points. From equifax i had 1 AAC, the NCO, BOA, and Wachovia removed. This method really works. I am going to start a new thread on what I did. If you guys use it and see positive results all I ask is when you think about getting a new credit card visit my site and apply for one there. Look to the threads, i will post it under GOOD METHOD TO GET ITEM REMOVED FROM CRA's

Paying off old debt, will restart the clock on the collection activity for that account. The law states the LAST ACTIVITY. which includes payments. You are doing an injustice to yourself by paying a old debt.Have them removed instead.

If you pay it off, why would they try to collect on it and why would you worry about the sol on an account that is at a zero balance?
