I had a judgement placed on me by social security 6 years ago which I knew nothing about and received nothing, now I have been granted disability social security and the money is trying to be put into my checking account and I am being told by the bank that they do not know if Social Security can take this money. Believe me, this will be a hughe hardship because I am a single mother and have 3 children, have borrowed money for everyone to live through trying to live while trying to get approved and I owe all of the money and have no way to take care of my children because of not being able to work, can you please advise me. Thank you

You should all your local SS office and ask them what this judgement was for and that you have never had benefits from SS up until now. They may have got your ss number mixed with someone elses. I can n ot understand how a judgemnet was placed without your knowledge but I am sure it happens espaecially with it being the giverment.
What do you mean when you say the money is trying to be put into your bank account? I am not quite sure of your meaning here. Are they trying and then taking it back out?
In any case I am not real sure on the SS laws. I know that any collector, garnishment or judgement that is in place for past due credit card and such can not be collected through SS money . Hang in there I bet there is someone who is more informative on this matter will answer.

Hi Smith
As far as I know, social security cannot be stopped t as a result of judgment unless you have a federal tax due or your income has increased so much that you do not qualify for social security benefit. So I agree with Fireyone on the point that you should contact the social security office to find out the reason why they have stopped paying you for six years and the reason why they have brought judgment against you.

Yes, I agree with you Anthony. Smith might have some problem with the social security account which I think will get resolved only if she contact the SS office. But since the disability social security has now been granted, I think she will not face any problem further. Under the Federal law, this disability social security benefit cannot be garnished for payment of any credit card or other debt. This SS benefit can be garnished only for repayment of Federal tax liability and child support.
