I am dealing with Identity theft an would like to rebuild my credit. I am having a very diffcult time rebuilding my credit. Are there any good credit card companies or any good ways to rebuild.

Hi Rachel,

The most important thing to do after identity theft is, keeping a watch on the accounts and checking the credit report for a couple of times over the year.

After checking the report, if you find any wrong information on the report in relation to the identity theft, immediately dispute those one by one with the credit bureaus. You then need to close and change all old accounts. Open them with new numbers and other needed safeguards.

For building credit after identity theft, you need to follow the basic rules for building credit. You need to make the payments in time. Make small purchases at the beginning and try to pay off the amount in full.

Building credit is not easy. It needs a considerable amount of time. You need to have patience for this.

Hope this helps.

I would have a bank account with a credit union. Ask them if they will give you a credit card. If not get a secured card. You can also take out a secured loan. This is a loan that uses a savings account as collateral. It is basically borrowing your own money but it goes on your credit report.
