I went to my bank today to withdraw money and cash a check. The teller told me there was a hold on my acct. I have a good amt in there(just recieved tax return) a creditor put the hold for the entire amt.Part of that money was tax return, yesterdays paycheck and a portion was a social security disability deposit i recieve instead of childsupport from my childrens father.....I just need some suggestions where to go from here.It left me completley broke. i thought they couldnt touch savings only if there was a checking acct.

Hello, First of all you need to find out who put the hold on your account. Did the bank give you any information on the subject? Next pull your credit report and find out who has a judgment against you. Someone here can correct me if I am wrong but I believe that you actually have to have a judgment against you before the company or person trying to collect the debt can do any of this.

Hi BtrflyGrl,

Fireyone is absolutely right. Before anybody can garnish your account, he needs to have a judgment against you. Therefore you should first try to find out if there has been any judgment against you. Get hold of a copy of your credit report and check for the details.

You are entitled to get a free credit report once a year. You should also ask about the details as to which company has put the hold on your account from the bank where your account is. That will be of some help to.

I do agree with your both posts, Generally i think its you who is responsible to do any thing with the savings amount which you have in your bank. No body can do any misinterpretation on you money. I suggest you to ask the whole details of the transactions being done and how has made it!!! I think this will help you a lot!!!
