my husband has a civil judgement for 1700.00 it is almost 7 years old but now we are trying to get a house and we can't until this is taken care of. What can we do to settle this for less any good suggestions

Hi Kamali,

Judgments stay on your credit report for 7-10 years. However, it varies according to the state. Thus, you can check on this. However, judgment can be renewed. So it's better to settle and pay off the judgment amount. You can first contact the company and request them to agree to a settlement. You can tell them that you are willing to pay, but won't be possible to pay such a high amount. Don't mention that you are going to buy a house, else they may pressurize you into paying more.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron
