How long should i wait for Palisades Collection to Validate

About 4-5 months ago i recieved a letter from Palisades Collection demanding payment in full of an old auto loan. The original creditor was drive financial (crooks). I sent Palisades a DV Letter within 30 days of recieving the collection letter and palisades sent me a letter stating that they were stopping the collection process until they validated the debt. That was over 3 months ago. How long should i wait before sending them another letter demanding they remove this negative credit from my credit report? The thing is that im sort of afraid to draw attention to it and all. The statutes of limitation in my state is 6 years and my last payment on this debt was almost 5 years ago...any advice would be appreciated!

Hi foreverandever,

You can try sending another debt validation letter to the collection agency through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. Wait for more than a month. If they fail to validate your debt this time too, dispute the item with the credit bureaus.

While sending the debt validation letter, mention that you had tried validating this debt before too.

Hope this helps.

Aaron

Hey Aaron,

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning toward doing just as you advise. I have been looking at this in 2 different ways. I have been scared to send any more letters and thus draw attention to it again, but then i think that if Palisades have the documents to truly validate this debt then they already would have. I dunno...maybe they just move slow? All im really sure of is that the whole thing is very nerve wracking!!

If i do send another letter seeking validation of the debt should i be a little more aggressive than the first validation letter? he first letter was kind of easy-going and blah.

Hi,

Better not be aggressive. You can rather mention in a line that you will dispute this item directly if they fail to validate the debt.

Thanks,

Aaron
