How to remove paid collection

In a student housing apartment, I was put in a room with drug users. But the landlord refused to let me move to a different apartment, and the police couldn't come in. So I walked out on the contract. Unfortunately, the piece of paper I had to sign to live near campus, is more important than my safety and the law. They sued me for the rent. I settled and paid it off in full.

The account is a "account listed negative". It is infact the ONLY negative mark on my credit report. To give you an idea, Experian and Equifax have that "negative" listed, and my credit score for them is a sub 670. TransUnion does not have that report. My TransUnion score is a 708. Unfortunately, because of that negative mark I am being refused a credit card.

In September last year, it was paid off in full and it was listed as "OK" The current status is "Current closed". I am not sure if I am off base for wanting this off my report. Maybe it is supposed to be there. Is there anything I can do to have it removed?

Hi Nik,

Can I know as to what the account status is? Is it showing "Paid in full"? If it is not, then you will have to request your creditor to update the account status. Use the payment receipt to resolve this problem.

Can you tell whether or not you got the agreement in writing that once you pay off the amount, your account will get updated as "Paid in full"?

Thanks,

Aaron

The only way to remove these types of accounts is to get the collection company to agree to a pay for delete agreement before you pay them, since you did not do this they have no incentive to remove the accounts. Those paid derogatory items will remain for the balance of the 7 year reporting period. They are legitimate items and you won't be able to get them removed.
