Removing Listings from my Credit Report

I checked my credit report yesterday because I am looking to get a new car. I pulled the report and there were so many things listed that I immediately got scared. Some of the things that were on there we sold to CA and they have been paid off. Some of the items are being paid off now. What can I do to get some items removed from my report to hopefully increase my credit score.

I checked my score yesterday and I got two different numbers 581 and 556. There is a really big difference in the two scores. That worries me. Please help!!

Hi malorieturner,

Welcome to this community :)

Negatives against the items which have already been paid off cannot be removed much easily. You can try to remove these by sending Goodwill letters to the creditors or collection agencies (CA). It is a request to the creditor or CA to remove the negatives on the basis of your goodwill.

As for those accounts on which you are now agreeing to pay, or those on which you are already making payments, request the creditor or CA to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. If they agree to PFD the negatives will be removed. However, not all creditors and CA agree to PFD. In that case you can try to remove the negatives by disputing the items with the credit bureaus. Though this is not a proper way to remove negatives, it does work sometimes.

To improve your score, I think you can get a secured credit card. Apply for a secured card with a company reporting to all the three credit bureaus. Then use the card to make purchases within your limit, and then make on-time payments on the card. You will have to maintain the on-time payments. Only then will your score increase.

You can also get added as an authorized user. Request any of your family members who has a good credit to add you as the authorized user on his/her account. This improves your score in very less time. Moreover, you are not held responsible for the debt as an authorized user.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron
