merchants credit guide was harrasing my over the phone about a debt they alledge i owe. So i sent the agent a fax and a direct email. They have stopped contacting me and have not reported anything to the credit bureaus but I am wondering if this is really over. arent they obligated to send me notification they have deleted the debt?

thanks

If they can't validate your debt you're supposed to sent them a Cease and Desist letter. This letter urges them not to call you anymore. In addition you should keep an eye on your credit report. You'll get copies of your credit report from the AnnualCreditReport.com.

The federal law states that all collection must cease until they provide validation. So it would be illegal for them to call or list this item on your credit. This does not mean it is over. It can take a few months for the response or they can sell the debt to another CA.

I don't agree about the Cease and Desist. A c&d says go away unless you plan to SUE. I think the best advice is to sit tight and see what happens next.

I also included a C&D in the DV request. i read in another thread that I shouldnt have done that, is this true and if so how do I go about correcting it?
