I recently signed up for Cable service. When the customer service person on the phone asked for my SSN, I asked why they needed it. She said its standard procedure. I asked if it was to pull my credit and she said NO. A few days later I was notified that they did a hard pull on my credit! They said they cant do anything about reversing the inquiry.

I want to know what legal recourse I have for them pulling my credit after they said that they would not.

Cable service does not really even seem like much of a credit line extended to a buyer. Why do these guys have the right to do a hard inquiry?

I guess they obtain such rights to keep a check on the misuse of technology. You may remove hard inquiries from your Transunion and Equifax reports only. It can't probably be done for your Experian report.
