one collection agency contacted me claiming an alleged debt from a day care service which I had resolved. Now I got to know that the day care service had not even bothered about what I had said and now they are insisting that I pay the amount. First I asked the collection to verify and simultaneously I asked the day care service. She sent me again copies of her ledger stating one particular week where she says that I missed. Now the interesting part is that whenever I used to write check I used to put the date in remarks column. I got the copy of check from bank and sent it to her. Now she says the amount is for some thing else. I again showed her another check. Now she says it is for some thing entirely different.
What should I do ?

You must send a debt validation request. A proper validation includes a copy of the original contract (signed by you), proof that the collection rights were passed on to a CA or that the debt was sold. If your debt is not validated accordingly, you shouldn't accept a repayment agreement.

Does the balance shown in their ledger reflect the same amount that's being shown in your CR? If not then this might lead to a violation of the FCRA in terms of an inaccurate reporting.
