Disabled person with credit card debt

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 03/24/2009 - 20:14

I have been disabled for the past 5+ years, and unable to work due to my health issues. Last year I stopped paying my credit card bills. I owe about 20k in total to various companies. I do not own a house, vehicle, or anything of much value. My only source of income is Public Aid/SSI/Food Stamps. I live with a roommate and pay rent and living expenses, which pretty much leaves me with nothing extra.

All my money is gone

I checked my bank account yesterday, because my debit card got declined when I went to pay for my lunch only to find out that I was $300 negative. There was no way that should have happened I just got my tax return 2 weeks ago and should have had over $2000 between my savings and checking account. I looked into it more to find out that my mom had a debt and since she was still on my account that I have had since I was in High School they took everything except $300 which was gone because of bills that I had payed over the weekend. Now I am stuck with no money and no way to get it back.

Help 1099-C

Submitted by Determined on Fri, 03/13/2009 - 20:07

Okay my hubby received a 1099-c from original creditor that has been filed with the IRS. Now he just received a letter from a collection agency asking him to make a payment. The one he received from the collection agency is actually asking for more money than what was listed on the 1099-c. Does he have to also have to pay this collection agency in addition to the 1099-c? Is this legal??????

Another Collection question

I sent a CA a validation letter and a cease letter telling them to stop calling me. The CA called me again, then I sent an intent to sue letter, contacted the Attorney Generals Office in their state and mine. The CA then sent a form with little information on their letter head saying they had validated the debt. They did no however send any proof that they are able to collect the debt as requested. Should I send the information to the credit bureaus their response and ask for them to remove the CA for not validating the loan and request they not sale the loan either.

Bad Collection Agency

Submitted by LT on Tue, 02/17/2009 - 15:59

I have sent a collection agency(Arrow Finanical) a validation letter, they then turned around and sold the account to another collection agency. Can I contact the credit bureaus and tell them what practice this collection agency is doing and have them remove the account and stop the collection agencies from selling the accounts. This act was because the account could not be validated and the original collection company was not registered in the state I live. Any help is excepted.
