First National Collection Bureau - What are the common complaints?

This is what people have to say about First National collection agency:

  • Makes non-stop calls to consumers: A consumer complained that a CA had made non-stop calls to his wife 3 months back. While searching the number in Google, he found out that the number belonged to FNCB. Learn more…
  • Calls at workplaces to harass people: Another person said that the collection agency called his workplace and harassed him. However, most of the time, it was a computerized voice.
  • Contacts the wrong person for debt collection: The collection agency also calls and harasses the wrong people, even after being informed that the CA hasn't contacted the right person. One consumer said that once he informed the CA that he wasn't the right person and the agency promised to not call again. But, he was harassed again by a different representative from the same company. Know the details…

Another person said that he was being harassed by FNCB over phone, as they repeatedly called this person, even after being informed several times that he wasn't the person the CA was looking for. Learn more…

  • Attempts to collect debt when the SOL has expired: One consumer said that once he received a letter on a debt after the Statute of Limitations (SOL) had already expired. Learn more…
  • Using an automated phone system to collect debts: Another person complained that the CA used an automated phone system using various area codes. After receiving the phone call, the consumers are directed to press particular numbers. It is actually a scam, as all of the numbers the consumers press are redirected to the collection agency. Find out more…

FNCB - How you can deal with this collection agency

When you're contacted by a collection agency, you should first verify their information. Ask the collection agency to validate the debt, meaning you should get the name and contact information of the original creditor in writing, along with the amount you owe. The collection agency should also provide you with evidence that they legally own the debt or have been assigned to collect the debt on the creditor's behalf. This way, you can avoid being harassed by a collection agency if you're not the person the CA is trying to contact. If a collection agency tries to contact you through an automated phone system, then you should simply hang up the phone to avoid being harassed or becoming a victim of a scam.

I had received a letter from FNCB about 3 months ago. In it they said I would get a 30 percent discount on a credit card I didnt pay 9 years ago. So I set up online account on their website and have been making the payments on time. They claim I only have to make five payments, but each payment doesn't take much off the debt. Should I keep making payments, or contact them to make sure its being applied to the bill? I just read these complaints about them, and now I'm a little worried.

I did receive a letter from them and it clearly states the original creditor. I am at fault with the original creditor, so should I assume this collection agency is legitimate?

Local Office 929-999-1816 called me , so I called them back twice from my own spoofed number , well I did give them my home phone & the woman said she was looking for some old name I knew of 25 years ago no connection to him , see I do have both my & my husbands credit reports . So if this is an old debt scam they will have a huge problem here . I also know from the first contact they have 5 days to send a letter , but there is one very powerful tool GO TO A NOTARY & GET A WITNESS (SWORN DENIAL TAKE IT TO YOUR COUNTY CLERKS OFFICE & FILE IT ) THIS COMPELS THEM TO HAVE EVERY BILLING STATEMENT , + EVERY WITNESS OF THE MATTER OF FACT TO COURT . And if they are just calling for the harassment of it then you sue sue sue , tell them they are being taped repetely Pa. law does not like the taping , but a lawyer told me to do this in Pa. state . Well when people play with me I play HARD BALL.

Before I found that this company was actually a scam, I made the unfortunate decision of making a payment to them for an account which I now believe to be fraudulent! Is there any way that I can recover my money from them?

In an attempt to clear up old credit, I made a settlement payment to FNCB by debit card pursuant to a letter they had sent to on 9/15. I subsequently got a call from Asset Management Group and I paid them for a bill but was not clear as to what account I was paying. It turns out that both agencies were collecting on the same bill. I called FNCB and asked them to email a paid in full letter to me. They said they could not send that by email as it was legal document and had to be sent by mail. I called Asset Management because they had already emailed me the paid in full notice. They said they were the legal collectors for that debt and FNCB was know to have committed fraud such as what I had reported. They offered to refund my money to me but they said that FCNB would probably not give any funds to the company I owed and I would probably be billed again. They suggested talking to my credit union and have them recind the transaction with FCNB.

I was only trying to clear up my credit and I now am in a bind. Does any of this make sense to you?

I just received a debt collection notice from FNCB for a total amount of $572.14. The notice gives Original Creditor as "Household". It says I can make three payments of $114.43 and has coupons that I have to cut off and mail to them. I do not have a debt for this amount to my knowledge. Could this be a scam?
